Náplň projektu
Projekt Aktivně po stopách velkých šelem podpořila Nadace OSF v rámci programu Active Citizens Fund, jehož cílem je podpora občanské společnosti a posílení kapacit neziskových organizací. Program je financován z Fondů EHP a Norska.
Cílem projektu je aktivně sdílet aktuální a vědecky ověřené informace o velkých šelmách v naší přírodě a to mezi různé skupiny: od stávajících mapovatelů, po širokou veřejnost. Projekt rovněž umožní veřejnosti zapojit se prostřednictvím dobrovolnictví do monitoringu a ochrany této skupiny živočichů. Tím navazuje na dlouhodobou dobrovolnickou aktivitu tzv. občanské vědy Hnutí DUHA Šelmy - Vlčí a Rysí hlídky.

PROJECT FULLNESS
The project Actively following the footsteps of large carnivores was supported by the OSF Foundation within the Active Citizens Fund program, which aims to support civil society and strengthen the capacity of non-profit organizations. The programme is funded by the EEA and Norway Grants.
The aim of the project is to actively share up-to-date and scientifically validated information about large carnivores in our countryside among different groups: from existing mappers to the general public. The project will also enable the public to get involved in monitoring and conservation of this group of animals through volunteering. This builds on the long-standing volunteer activity of the so-called citizen science of the Hnutí DUHA Šelmy- Wolf and Lynx Patrols.

Řešený problém a jeho příčiny
Velké šelmy patří mezi zvláště chráněné druhy živočichů a to jak českou, tak evropskou legislativou. Česká legislativa je řadí mezi kriticky (vlk, medvěd) resp. silně ohrožené druhy (rys). Naší dlouhodobou vizí je usnadnění návratu velkých šelem do české krajiny a snížení možného konfliktu v soužití těchto vzácných druhů s člověkem, a tím i možných rizik jejich ohrožení. Pro všechny druhy velkých šelem představuje největší ohrožení negativní názor části veřejnosti na jejich existenci v naší přírodě, který vede k nižší akceptaci těchto druhů a potažmo i pytláctví. V oblastech novodobého výskytu (především v případě vlků) často panují obavy některých lidí z těchto predátorů, podněcované nepravdivými či zavádějícími informacemi, záměrně v lidech vyvolávající strach a způsobujících nejistotu při pobytu v přírodě. Pověry či nepodložená tvrzení výrazně negativně ovlivňují také postoj místní veřejnosti.
THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED AND ITS CAUSES
Large carnivores are a specially protected species under both Czech and European legislation. Czech legislation classifies them as critically (wolf, bear) or highly endangered (lynx). Our long-term vision is to facilitate the return of large carnivores to the Czech landscape and to reduce the potential conflict in the coexistence of these rare species with humans and thus the potential risks of their endangerment. For all species of large carnivores, the biggest threat is the negative public opinion of their existence in our nature, which leads to lower acceptance of these species and consequently to poaching. In areas of recent occurrence (especially in the case of wolves), there is often fear among some people of these predators, fuelled by false or misleading information, deliberately causing fear and insecurity in people when they are in the countryside. Superstitions or unsubstantiated claims also have a significant negative impact on local public attitudes.
Cíle projektu
Cílem projektu je zvyšovat povědomí široké veřejnosti o velkých šelmách žijících v české krajině - vlka obecného, rysa ostrovida a medvěda hnědého. Chceme co nejširší skupině obyvatel zprostředkovat objektivní a vědecky ověřená fakta o životě a výskytu těchto druhů, s následnou možností aktivního zapojení do jejich ochrany a monitoringu. Pochopení těchto zvířat, jejich role v přírodě a vyvážené informace mezi veřejností povedou k lepšímu soužití lidí a velkých šelem, k větší míře ochrany těchto ohrožených živočichů i jejich biotopů.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the general public about large carnivores living in the Czech landscape - the wolf, the lynx and the brown bear. We want to convey objective and scientifically verified facts about the life and occurrence of these species to the widest possible group of people, with the subsequent possibility of active involvement in their protection and monitoring. Understanding of these animals, their role in nature and balanced information among the public will lead to better coexistence between humans and large carnivores, to a greater degree of protection of these endangered animals and their habitats.
Aktivity projektu
Mezi aktivity projektu patří široká škála osvětové činnosti, na které spolupracujeme s naším partnerem - Sedmou generací. Sedmá generace se věnuje především žurnalistické práci a v průběhu projektu vytváří články, reportáže a rozhovory, týkající se velkých šelem, jejich ekologie, biologie, roli v ekosystému, společenskému vnímání těchto druhů apod.
Vznikne také první šelmí podcast, který bude témata rozebírat v rozhlasových rozhovorech se zajímavými osobnostmi, do jejichž života šelmy nějakým způsobem vstupují a bude přinášet pravidelné novinky, podobně jako již fungující pravidelný e-zpravodaj o velkých šelmách, jehož vydávání je také jednou z aktivit projektu. Navíc autoři z Hnutí DUHA připraví novou publikaci věnující se vyvracení nejběžnějších pověr, týkajících se velkých šelem.
Kromě toho se ale projekt zaměří také na další budování dobrovolnické základny, která se podílí na praktické ochraně a monitoringu šelem v terénu formou Vlčích a Rysích hlídek a jejich terénních kurzů. Občanská společnost se tím přímo podílí na pochopení života vrcholových predátorů, jejich ochraně a předávní těchto informací a zážitků dál přímo v regionech.Jsme obeznámeni s politikou ochrany dětí a zvlášť zranitelných dospělých a respektujeme kodex Nadace OSF.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES
The project activities include a wide range of awareness-raising activities in which we cooperate with our partner - the Seventh Generation. The Seventh Generation is primarily engaged in journalistic work and during the project produces articles, reports and interviews on large carnivores, their ecology, biology, role in the ecosystem, social perception of these species, etc.
The first carnivore podcast will also be created, which will discuss the topics in radio interviews with interesting personalities whose lives the carnivores enter in some way and will bring regular news, similar to the already functioning regular newsletter on large carnivores, the publication of which is also one of the activities of the project. In addition, the authors from the Hnutí DUHA Šelmy will prepare a new publication dedicated to debunking the most common superstitions about large carnivores.
In addition, the project will also focus on further building a volunteer base that is involved in practical protection and monitoring of carnivores in the field in the form of Wolf and Lynx Patrols and their field courses. In this way, the civil society is directly involved in understanding the life of apex predators, protecting them and passing this information and experience on directly in the regions. We are familiar with the policy on the protection of children and particularly vulnerable adults and respect the OSF Code of Practice.
